Accessibility Statement

Last Updated: December 4, 2025

Our Accessibility Commitment

At Pinch of Bite, we believe that everyone deserves access to delicious homemade recipes, regardless of their abilities or the technology they use. We are committed to making our website and recipe content accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities.

Our goal is to ensure that PinchOfBite.com meets or exceeds the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we continuously work to improve the user experience for everyone who visits our site.

Whether you use a screen reader, navigate with a keyboard, require larger text, or use any assistive technology, we want you to enjoy cooking with our recipes just as much as anyone else.

Accessible Recipe Features

We’ve implemented several features to make our recipes more accessible:

Text Alternatives for Images

  • All recipe images include descriptive alt text that conveys the important visual information
  • Step-by-step process photos include detailed descriptions of what’s happening in each image
  • Decorative images are marked appropriately so screen readers skip them

Clear and Structured Recipe Instructions

  • Recipes use proper heading hierarchy (H1, H2, H3) for easy navigation with screen readers
  • Step-by-step instructions are numbered and written in clear, simple language
  • Ingredient lists are formatted with proper HTML markup for screen reader compatibility
  • Recipe cards include all essential information in text format, not just images

Keyboard Navigation Support

  • All interactive elements (buttons, links, forms) can be accessed using only a keyboard
  • Visible focus indicators show which element is currently selected when navigating with Tab key
  • “Skip to Recipe” and “Jump to Recipe” buttons allow quick navigation past introductory content
  • Logical tab order follows the natural reading flow of the page

Readable Text and Visual Design

  • Text uses sufficient color contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text)
  • Font sizes are adjustable using browser zoom without breaking the layout
  • Line spacing and paragraph spacing follow readability best practices
  • Text is never embedded in images (except for decorative purposes)

Printer-Friendly Recipe Cards

  • Recipe cards can be printed without ads or unnecessary graphics
  • Print versions maintain clear formatting and readable text sizes
  • Ingredient lists and instructions remain easy to follow in printed format

Video and Media Accessibility

  • Recipe videos include captions/subtitles where available
  • Autoplay is disabled to prevent unexpected audio
  • Video controls are keyboard accessible

Forms and Interactive Elements

  • Contact forms and newsletter signup forms include clear labels
  • Error messages clearly describe what needs to be corrected
  • Required fields are clearly marked
  • Form fields can be navigated and completed using only a keyboard

Assistive Technologies We Support

Our website has been tested with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen Readers: JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android)
  • Browser Zoom: Up to 200% magnification without content loss
  • Keyboard Navigation: Full site navigation without a mouse
  • Voice Control: Dragon NaturallySpeaking and similar voice recognition software
  • High Contrast Mode: Windows High Contrast and browser extensions

Ongoing Improvements

Accessibility is not a one-time project—it’s an ongoing commitment. Here’s what we’re actively working on:

Current Accessibility Initiatives

  • Regular accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing
  • Testing with real users who rely on assistive technologies
  • Updating older recipe posts to meet current accessibility standards
  • Training our team on accessibility best practices
  • Monitoring WCAG guidelines for updates and new best practices

Known Issues We’re Working On

We’re currently aware of and working to resolve the following accessibility challenges:

  • Some older recipe posts may not have complete alt text—we’re updating these systematically
  • Third-party plugins (like ad networks) may not be fully accessible—we’re working with vendors to improve this
  • Complex recipe variations and substitution options could be clearer for screen reader users

We appreciate your patience as we continue to improve these areas.

Conformance Status

Pinch of Bite aims for WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance.

  • Fully Conformant: The content meets all Level AA success criteria
  • Partially Conformant: Some content does not fully meet all Level AA success criteria (third-party content, legacy posts)
  • Not Evaluated: Some features have not yet been tested against WCAG guidelines

We conduct regular accessibility reviews and updates to move toward full conformance.

Third-Party Content

Some content on our website is provided by third-party services, including:

  • Social media sharing buttons
  • Embedded videos (YouTube)
  • Advertising networks (if applicable)
  • Analytics services

While we strive to choose accessible third-party services, we cannot always guarantee their accessibility. If you encounter accessibility barriers with third-party content, please let us know.

Request Alternative Formats

We want to ensure our recipes work for your needs. If you need content in an alternative format, we’re happy to help:

Available Upon Request:

  • Large Print Recipes: Formatted with larger fonts and increased spacing
  • Plain Text Versions: Stripped of images and formatting for easier screen reader use
  • Audio Descriptions: Verbal descriptions of visual cooking techniques
  • Simplified Instructions: Broken down into even simpler steps for cognitive accessibility
  • Ingredient Lists Only: Just the ingredients without the full post content

To request an alternative format, please contact us using the information below. We’ll do our best to provide the requested format within 5 business days.
